Abstract
1,262,670. Grinding and sifting cement. ESCHER WYSS Ltd. 18 March, 1969 [21 March, 1968; 24 Dec., 1968], No. 14268/69. Headings B2A and B2H. In a process for grinding and sifting cement in a closed circuit according to which raw cement is ground and the ground cement is thereupon sifted and divided into a coarse cement stream and a fine cement stream, the coarse cement stream being returned to the raw cement stream and the fine cement forming the finished product, a partial stream is taken from the fine cement stream and is re-introduced into the closed circuit. In Fig. 1, raw cement is supplied through a conduit 5 to the inlet 4 of a grinding mill 1 the outlet 7 of which is connected to a bucket elevator 6 which delivers the ground cement to a sifter 2 from which the coarse fraction is returned to the mill 1 via a conduit 3 and the fine fraction is directed via a conduit 3 to an adjustable selector valve 9 from which a portion of the fine fraction is discharged as the desired product through a conduit 10 and another portion is returned to the bucket elevator 6 via a conduit 11. In modifications, the other portion of the fine fraction may be led (a) to another elevator which conveys it to the sifter inlet, (b) to the mill inlet, or (c) partly to the mill inlet and partly to a further selector valve from which a fine-fraction portion is discharged as the desired product and another portion is returned to the elevator. The sifter may be of the type shown in Figs. 5 and 6. Raw cement is scattered in an inner chamber 53 by a plate 55 which is rotated with a vaned selector wheel 56 and a fan 57 by a common drive 58. An upward air current induced by the fan entrains the fine cement through the selector wheel and into a separating chamber 54 from which the air is recirculated into the chamber 53 through louvres 59. The degree of fineness of the fine cement is controlled by having selector vanes 517-519 of different radial dimensions and by radially movable slide elements 511.
