Abstract

1,262,468. Mixing device. BIBBY CHEMICALS Ltd. 30 Oct., 1969 [9 Nov., 1968], No. 53216/68. Heading B1C. A mixing device suitable for mixing polyurethane foam-forming fluids comprises a casing 1 provided with a bore 2 through which the fluids to be mixed are passed, the bore having at least one frusto-conical chamber 5 with a stub pipe entrant portion 19, and a deflecting member 7a or 7b arranged in the chamber to deflect the flow of fluid from the stub pipe along a path between the pipe and skirt 10 and between skirt 10 and the walls of the chamber. The skirt may be spaced from the base of recess 11 as shown; alternatively, it could contact the base, the fluid flowing through perforations in the skirt. The deflecting member may be provided with a flange 15 having through-holes 16 and/or skew-holes 17 to promote swirling, and its downstream face may be conically profiled. The width of the bore may be wider at the outlet end 4 than at the inlet end 3. The casing may be constructed of screwed-together parts between which the deflecting member is clamped. Foaming may be assisted by the introduction of a gaseous fluorocarbon via duct 3c.
