Abstract
1,262,269. Pumps operating by electromagnetic interaction with fluids. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 2 Dec., 1969 [3 Dec., 1968], No. 57257/68. Heading H2A. In an A.C. conduction pump an electrically conductive fluid is pumped through a duct 21 by passing alternating current through the duct between oppositely located conductive wall portions and applying an alternating magnetic field at right angles to the current path. The current is obtained from a transformer having a secondary winding in the form of conductive plates 14 having extensions 15 shaped to form a channel 18, Fig. 2 (not shown) to the side walls (17A, 19A) of which the electrically conductive wall portions of the duct are brazed. The plates 14 have slots 24 to reduce eddy currents. The magnetic field is obtained from a laminated core 10. In a modification the plates 14 are replaced by a single conductive block.
