Abstract

1,261,565. Cracking dicyclopentadiene. HOOKER CHEMICAL CORP. 7 Oct., 1969 [15 Oct., 1968], No. 59996/70. Divided out of 1,261,564. Heading C5E. Monocyclopentadiene is obtained by cracking dicyclopentadiene by heating in a liquid paraffinic hydrocarbon solvent having the following characteristics: (a) an I.B.P. of 270-277‹ C.; (b) 10-20% by weight boils off when the temperature is 295-310‹C.; and (c) 75-85% by weight boils off when the temperature is 337- 357‹ C. The gaseous effluent may be partially condensed, allowing the paraffinic solvent to return to the cracking chamber (see Specification 1,261,564), and the desired product recovered by fractionation of the remaining gas.
