Abstract

A yarn changing device comprises an indexable drum 5 carrying a series of guides 8, the index steps being selectively controlled by a series of stops 26 movable relative to the drum. The guides are slidable in slots 7 cut in the periphery of the drum which is rotatable anti-clockwise by a spring. A series of steps 18 fixed to the drum and engageable by a spring loaded plunger 20 permits each guide to be located under a plunger 10. When a yarn is to be changed the plunger is raised to withdraw the active guide and a selected stop 26 projected into the path of the steps. If the next active guide is clockwise of that previously active the slope 27 of the stop engages and raises the plunger 20. The drum turns in steps till the corner of the stop engages the appropriate step where the plunger remains. Plunger 10 is lowered to activate the new guide. If the next active guide is anticlockwise of the last, the corner of the selected stop engages the appropriate step. As relative movement between the two occurs the drum is indexed and plunger 20 drops to the required step. Yarn is clamped at the base of the guides by a resilient strip (30, Figs. 6, 7 not shown) released when the guide is active by a plunger (32).
