Abstract

1,260,564. Texturing extruded bricks. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 17 July, 1970 [8 Aug., 1969], No. 39708/69. Heading B5A. An apparatus for the manufacture of building elements, e.g. bricks, comprises a die 1 to extrude a semi-fluid material, e.g. clay, wires 3 for cutting the material into layers 4, wedges 14 to separate the layers before they pass bands 11 to texture the surface of each layer, the texturing bands being driven by a roller 10 at a speed corresponding to that of the material, under the control of a speed monitoring device located on a feed roller 5 which controls a prime mover 12. The bands 11 are formed by tapes, strings, cords, or wires, and have projections formed by knots, teeth, or weld blobs. After texturing the layers are moved to cutters where they are made into discrete lengths before being dried and fired. The apparatus can be used with only one layer.
