Abstract
1388014 Making simulated hand formed bricks H VAN DAAL 21 Feb 1972 [17 March 1971] 7904/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division E1] An extruded brick column is formed with the surface appearance of hand made bricks, by indenting a surface of the extruding brick column 12 with the relief pattern of rollers 18, 20 followed, after deposition of sand or sawdust from a container 22 and which is brushed into the indentations by a brush 24, by deformation of the indented surface by scraper, or by a roller 26 rotating in the opposite direction to that of extrusion. The side surfaces of the column 12 may be similarly indented by rollers 28, 30. The column 12 is extruded with rounded upperside edges which are deformed to a rectangular section by the rollers and is cut into individual bricks by the wire 44 of an automatic cutter 34, which may be provided with an upper vertically adjustable former 38 having sides tapered downwardly to a sharp edge 40 and which acts to round or flatten the transverse edges of the bricks at the cut interface, similarly to hand made bricks. Alternatively deformation of the edges may be automatically effected at the required location on the column prior to, and at a distance of one or more brick lengths upstream of the cutting.
