Abstract
1,260,296. Valves. CANNON INDUSTRIES Ltd. 28 March, 1969 [28 March, 1968], No. 14915/68. Heading F2N. In a rotary plug gas tap, which has an inlet 23 and an outlet 31, the plug 27 is formed with two apertures 28 and 29<SP>1</SP> which are angularly offset and axially displaced with respect to each other such that a high gas supply is obtained when aperture 28 is aligned with the inlet and a small supply when aperture 29<SP>1</SP> is aligned with the inlet, only one of the apertures being fully alignable with the inlet at any one time. A superficial plug recess 42 interconnects the two apertures such that in moving the plug between its two supplying positions, the flow to the outlet is never fully cut-off. Upon aperture 29<SP>1</SP> being placed in communication with the inlet, flow to the outlet 31 takes place through a metering device 38 removably secured within the valve plug. The metering device may be withdrawn from the plug without disturbing the latter, the withdrawal being possible subsequent to the removal of operating shaft 43. Inter-engagement between the shaft and plug is achieved by the provision of projections 44 on the former and recesses 46 on the latter. The innermost parts of the projections 44 serve also to co-operate with recesses 56 and 57, which are formed in a platesecurable to the valve body 20, and so to releasably lock the plug in either the position in which it is fully closed or in the position in which its aperture 29<SP>1</SP> is aligned with the inlet, release of the locking being achieved by inward depression of the shaft against the force of spring 55. Limitation of angular rotation of the plug is afforded by the co-operation of the outermost portions of projections 44 with lugs 53. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 15 (not shown), the metering device is substituted by a needle valve (60) which is adjustable from outside the valve, the shaft being made hollow for this purpose.
