Abstract

1,260,284. Door chains. ARCHIBALD KENRICK & SONS Ltd. 9 Dec., 1968 [7 Dec., 1967], No. 55731/67. Heading E2A. A security device for a door comprises a casing 10 for attachment to the door, a spring- loaded drum 13 within the casing, a flexible element 15 wound on the drum and extending at one end through an opening 16 in the casing, and means 17 on the end of the flexible element for interlocking engagement with a coacting keeper 18 for attachment to the door frame, and a back plate 11 which lies, in use, between the casing and the door and projects from the casing to protect the door from damage by the flexible element, means being provided for limiting withdrawal of the flexible element from the casing, whereby, in use, opening of the door is limited by the flexible element. As shown, the flexible element is a stranded stainless steel cable.
