Abstract
1,259,590. Swaging. G.F.M. GES. FUR FERTIGUNGSTECHNIK UND MASCHINENBAU AG 30 June, 1970 [2 July, 1969], No. 31671/70. Heading B3H. An attachment for use with a swaging machine 1 which has a gripping head 4 slidable on a bed 3 at each side of the machine comprises a bridge block 7 releasably secured to the bed and a pair of piston-cylinder motors 8, 9 connected by a yoke 10 to move a rod 11 releasably coupled to a mandrel actuating rod 13, 13a. The gripper heads 4 each have a hollow spindle 5 with jaws 6. The mandrel may be short and have a large diameter 14 or be long and thin 14a. In the first embodiment, Figs. 3-6 (not shown), the mandrel is advanced through the workpiece 15 and held stationary in the machine while the workpiece is moved over it and swaged. In the second embodiment, Figs. 7-10 (not shown), the workpiece 15a and mandrel 14a are withdrawn together through the swaging machine. The mandrel 14a is gripped by the jaws and disconnected from the rod 11 during swaging.
