Abstract
1,258,288. Moulding fibre reinforced plaster. GES. FUR RATIONELLE FERTIGBAUMETHODEN UND MASCHINENANLAGEN m.b.H. & CO. 21 Aug., 1969 [2 Sept., 1968], No. 41714/69. Heading B5A. [Also in Division E1] Fibre reinforced plaster members are continuously moulded by depositing the plaster and fibres on to an endless moving band as superimposed layers in the required shape of the moulding, and which shape is maintained as the layers are intermixed, prior to adding water (in an amount not more than 20% in excess of that necessary for setting) during or after transfer to a further endless moving band against which a compacting pressure effects the moulding. Examples are given in which (I), a mixture comprising plaster of Paris and dry digested paper fibres, in a weight ratio of 3:1, are conducted through a water bath containing hydrated calcium chloride accelerator, between opposed endless perforated bands, which are adjustably loaded by perforated guide rollers which apply a pulsating pressure, the resultant moulding then passing through a pair of profiled pressure rollers and having a layer of dry plaster sprinkled on one side prior to cutting and, after drying, having a bituminous coating applied to the other side; (2) a mixture comprising alum treated plaster with gypsum rock, asbestos, synthetic resin powder and treated wood fibres, is sprayed with 25% by weight thereof of water during gravitational transfer to the endless moving band on which it is compacted; (3) the mixture is compacted after penetration of the water effected by vacuum applied beneath a perforated endless band; (4) a laminated structure is moulded on the endless band from three superimposed mixed layers delivered thereto, the inner and outer layers respectively having weight ratios of plaster to fibre of 3:1 and 9:1, which are wetted by water applied to the band, to each layer thereon and, after spraying liquid synthetic resin on the upper layer, from a continuously run wet felt cloth when compressed during the moulding. The weight proportion of fibre to plaster is preferably 12 to 25%. The water may also be added in the form of salts or slags which yield water under the compression, or in the form of steam. Additives of various specified functions, or fillers or binders may be incorporated.
