Abstract

1,254,540. Knitting-machines. S. A. MONK (SUTTON IN ASHFIELD) Ltd. 25 Nov., 1969 [6 Dec., 1968], No. 58061/68. Heading D1C. A take-down mechanism for a V-bed machine comprising a hook bar 4 and a drawoff roller 5 includes means 6 for engaging the fabric when pressed off the bar. The bar is raised on chains 15 driven by shaft 19 until a stop block 43 fixed to the shaft engages the end of arm 34. When knitting is commenced the shaft is driven in the opposite direction and initial tension applied to the fabric by a spring plunger (38, Fig. 10, not shown) at the end of the arm acting against the block 43. Knitting continues with the bar moving downwardly, check pawls (87, Fig. 2b not shown) on an intermediate drive shaft preventing the tensioned fabric pulling back the bar. The ratchets (86) are released to ease tension during fashioning, however. When the bar reaches its lowermost position a switch is tripped to stop the bar and swing the pressure roller 49 between roller 5 and auxiliary roller 6 which now engages the fabric and directs it onto guide plate 63. Lever 70 is tripped by the bar to swing the press off plate 62 against the fabric. When a sufficient weight of fabric has been knitted it presses off onto the tray 64.
