Abstract

1,253,968. Door closer device with fluid check passages. DOR-O-MATIC (G.B.) Ltd. 31 Jan., 1969 [1 Feb., 1968], No. 5204/68. Heading E2M. A door closer device for mounting on a door and comprising a piston 12 longitudinally slidable in a cylindrical bore 14 in a casing 10, wherein the piston is displaced axially against the force of springs 28, when the door is opened, by means of a pinion 22 on a shaft 20 connected by levers to the door frame and engaging a toothed axially-extending slot 26 in the piston 12, is characterised in that passages are provided in the casing for the flow of hydraulic fluid during the closing movement and ports 62, 64, 66 opening from the bore communicate with the passages, at least one passage communicating permanently with the slot 26, by means of a groove 80 formed in and extending along the bore 14. The groove 80 is preferably helical. The innermost and outermost ports 62, 66 are provided with restrictor valves which are adjustable to control the door closing rates in the usual way, and the innermost port 62 communicates with the slot 26 through the groove 80. A ball valve 60 is provided in the piston head 13 to allow free flow of fluid during the door opening movement, and an opening check is provided by a rod 34 with a tapered flat 38 which extends from the end of the bore 14 into a hole 30 in the piston head 15 and provides an increasing resistance to opening.
