Abstract

1,249,885. Opening containers. NATIONAL STEEL CORP. 1 Nov., 1968 [22 Jan., 1968], No. 51788/68. Heading B8D. A container wall, e.g. of tin-plated steel, aluminium, plastics or foil-paper laminates, has an outer endless scoreline 18 defining a removable section 20 within which lies an inner are shaped scoreline 22. The two scorelines 18, 22 define a tear out segment 24 which contains a securing means 40 for a pull ring 38. Upon raising the pull ring 38, the inner scoreline 22 is ruptured at a point 58 by a Class 2 lever action whereas an end 48 of the pull ring 38 pierces the outer scoreline at 56 by a Class 1 lever action. On moving the pull ring 38 back across the container wall, the tear out segment 24 is torn whilst further tearing displaces the as yet undisturbed removable section 20. The inner scoreline 22 may have its ends joined by a scoreline 32. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the above arrangement forms a pour opening in a minor portion of a container wall. In a further modification, Fig. 10 (not shown), the outer scoreline defines a removable portion along three side walls of a rectangular container.
