Abstract

1348192 Sheet metal closures ALUMINUM CO OF AMERICA 29 Feb 1972 [5 March 1971] 9355/72 Heading B8T A sheet metal closure 10 has a tear strip 22 defined by score lines 20 to which strip a pull tab 30 is attached, a rib 48 being formed in the strip in order to resist bending of the strip as it is torn away and encourage the tearing to continue over the shoulder formed between the end wall and skirt of the closure. At least one of the score lines 20 extends into the closure skirt. Further score lines 24 and further ribs 28 may be provided, the ribs 28 being for stacking of adjacent containers and to protect the pull tab. In a modification, Figs. 7-10 (not shown) three ribs are formed in the strip 22. A liner 38 or (78) may be used to reclose the container after the metal closure is removed.
