Abstract

1,249,776. Inert switches. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. 30 Jan., 1970 [1 Feb., 1969], No. 4637/70. Heading H1N. An electrical pull switch comprises a housing formed in halves 1, 2, a switching disc 10 having cams on each surface, the cams 14 on one surface co-operating with operating means 19 connected to the pull cord 18 and including a return spring 15 mounted in housing half 2, and the cams 12 on the other surface co-operating also under the action of return spring 15 with stationary cams 13 in housing half 1 to define the switch positions, the other surface of disc 10 also carrying bridge contacts 11 which co-operate with fixed contacts 3 in housing half 1. As shown, Fig. 3 depicts an inside view of the housing with two pull cords 18 shown although in fact only one is provided. Operating means 19 is a sleeve fastening pull cord 18 to return spring 15. The other end 16 of return spring 15 is secured in housing half 2. To operate the switch, pull cord 18 is pulled which causes sleeve 19 to engage a cam 14 and rotate disc 10. When cord 18 is released, cams 12, 13 maintain disc 10 in position while return spring 15 rotates pull cord 18 back to its original position, sleeve 19 moving over the sloping surface of cam 14, depicted as sloping in Figs 7, 8 (not shown). Instead of sleeve 19, cord 18 may be knotted behind a loop in the end of spring 15, Fig. 8.
