Abstract

1,249,526. Drilling apparatus. GARDNERDENVER CO. 9 May, 1969 [9 Dec., 1968], No. 23817/69. Heading B4C. [Also in Division B3] A drilling apparatus comprises a percussion drill motor 22 and a pulley 38 around which fluid conduits pass, the conduits each having one end connected to the drill motor and a portion fixed with respect to a drill support 20, formed of an extruded aluminium alloy or steel, by a clamp 42. The drill motor and pulley are indexable relative to the support by feed screws 44, 86 respectively, and the pulley is moved along the support at a speed different to that of the motor, preferably the pulley moves at half the speed of the motor to maintain a constant tension in the conduits. The screws are driven by a reversible fluid operated motor 48 via gears 58, 60. The thread lead on the screws 44, 86 is such that the different speeds of movement of the motor and pulley are achieved and the threads are of opposite hand. Alternatively the thread leads may be equal, and the diameter of gears (106, 110) on the screws provide the different speeds (Fig. 4, not shown). If the screws have threads of the same hand, an idler gear will be provided between gears 92, 96.
