Abstract

1,248,890. Hydrofoil trimaran sailing craft. D. A. KEIPER. 8 April, 1970 [7 May, 1969], No. 16688/70. Headings B7A and B7V. A sailing hydrofoil trimaran has a bow hydrofoil structure 26 pivotally attached to the opposite sides of the central hull 20, lateral hydrofoil assemblies 28, 30 attached one to each of the lateral pontoon hulls 22, 24 and a stern hydrofoil assembly 32 which includes lifting hydrofoil blades. In the embodiment shown the stern hydrofoil assembly 32 includes steering elements 88, 90 and all hydrofoil assemblies are pivotally attached to the hull. When the stern hydrofoil assembly has been swung upwardly and rearwardly, enlarged upper portions 89, 91 act as rudders during displacement sailing as shown at 91<SP>1</SP> in Fig. 3.
