Abstract
1,248,127. Electrically insulating coating compositions. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 24 March, 1969 [26 April, 1968], No. 15216/69. Heading C4A. [Also in Division C7] Electrically insulating coating compositions for metals, e:g. steel, comprise an aqueous mixture of (1) the reaction product of a watersoluble salt of trivalent chromium and a watersoluble chromate (2) phosphoric acid -and (3) colloidal silica or alumina. Usual proportions are 1À5-10% by wt. (1), 15-30% (2), 10-40% (3) and 20-70% water. The reaction product (1) is preferably that of Cr(NO 3 ) 3 .9H 2 O and Na 2 CrO 4 .4H 2 O; other chromium reactants are the acetate, sulphate and chloride on one hand and potassium, magnesium and calcium chromate on the -other. A suitable colloidal alumina is boehmite, AlOOH. The reaction product (1) may be formed in advance or in situ.
