Abstract

1,246,485. Suction lifting heads. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 20 May, 1969 [17 June, 1968], No. 28771/68. Heading B8A. A suction lifting head 10, Fig. 1, comprises an upper horizontal plate 12 and side members 14 which are hinged at 16 to the upper plate and pulled into contact with the sides of the load when conduits 32 are connected to a vacuum source. Each member 36 which abuts the load comprises an apertured plate backed by a wire cloth. Fig. 3 shows an embodiment in which side members 102 have resilient gaskets 104 and the upper member 100 has gaskets 110. Conduits connect the spaces between the gaskets 104, 110 with the conduit 106 which leads to the vacuum source. The pads 110 may be repeated by additional side pads near to the top of the load. Valves permit suction to be applied either to the top of the load only, or to both the top and the sides.
