Abstract

An aqueous concentrate for producing a fire-fighting foam comprises a hydrolysed protein and 0.05-10% by wt. of a water-soluble perfluoro carbon surfactant. The surfactant may be non-ionic, e.g. CxF( 2x+1 ) SO 2 NR(C 2 H 4 O) n H or anionic, e.g. CxF( 2x+1 ) SO 2 NRCH 2 COOM CxF( 2x+1 ) SO 2 NR(C 2 H 4 O) n SO 3 M CxF( 2x+1 ) COOM CyF( 2y-1 ) OC 6 H 4 SO 3 M CyF( 2y-1 ) OC 6 H 4 COOM CyF( 2y-1 ) O(CH 2 ) 2 COOM H(CF 2 ) x COOM, in which x is 4-20, y >7, n <20, R is alkyl, and M is a metal, ammonium or amine radical. In a test, 0.1% by wt. of an ammonium prefluoro caprylate is added to a foam concentrate containing 20% by wt. hydrolysed protein.
