Abstract

1,244,849. High voltage switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 24 Sept., 1968 [28 Sept., 1967], No. 44241/67. Heading H1N. A switch isolator comprises a conductor blade 5 mounted on and rotatable with a support post 4 so as to co-operate with fixed contacts 17, 18 on spaced support insulators 2, 3, a circuit interrupter carried by one of the support insularors, the circuit interrupter being of the kind having a piston movable in conjunction with the relative movement of the interrupter contacts to produce a flow of insulating gas to extinguish an arc drawn between the contacts, and separate operating means 7, 19 for the blade 5 and the circuit interrupter. As shown, each support insulator 2, 3 carries an L-shaped pair of circuit interrupters 9, 10 and 11, 12 with voltage sharing capacitors 14 and earthing switches 20. The operating means may be hydraulic or pneumatic and interlocking means may be provided to ensure sequential operation of the blade and interrupters and the latter may be controlled by a synchronizing relay. In a three-phase arrangement common operating means would be provided for the three phases.
