[Also in Divisions C2 and C5] A disinfecting agent comprises an aqueous solution of an aminocarboxylic acid of the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is C 10-18 alkyl, R<SP>2</SP> is an ethylene or propylene radical, R<SP>3</SP> is a substituted or unsubstituted divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical and x is 1, 2 or 3, which has been stabilised against precipitation by the addition of 0.01 to 1 mole of formaldehyde per mole of acid. The Example specifies lauryldiethylene triaminoacetic acid.
