Abstract

1,243,991. CNS depressants. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 Sept., 1969 [10 June, 1968], No. 27501/68. Heading A5B. [Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions, suitable for oral or parenteral administration and having depressant activity on the central nervous system and thymoleptic activity contain novel piperidine, piperazine or morpholine derivatives of the formula wherein A is -O-, -CH 2 -, or =NCOR, where R is H, alkyl, aryl, halogenoaryl, alkoxy, aryloxy, arolkloxy or amino and, X is phenyl which may optionall bear one or more substituents selected from alkoxy and acyl radicals in association with pharmaceutically-acceptable diluents or carriers therefor. The above compositions may also contain one or more known drugs selected from neuroleptic agents for example chlorpromazine, prochlorperazine, trifluoperazine and haloperidol, sedative drugs and tranquillizers, for example, chlordiazepoxide, phenobarbitone and amylbarbitone; and phnyton; #-adrenergic blocking agents, anticonculsant drugs, for example primidone for example propanolol; drugs used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, for example benzhexol; and other anti-depressant drugs, for example imipramine, desipramine, amitriptyline, nortriptyline, drugs of the amphetamine type and monoamineoxidase inhibitors, for example phenelzine and mebanazine.
