Abstract

A nozzle for heating and ejecting a jet or spray of particulate material comprises at least one inlet 3 for the material in communication with a heating zone 4 which is in communication with at least one outlet 16, and means for directing to the heating zone a beam of charged particles or radiation which loses energy to material passing through the heating zone towards the outlet. The nozzle may have means, e.g. lens 7, for bringing the beam to focus in the heating zone at a point 4 of minimum area.
