Abstract

1,242,639. Releaseable fastening; clamp fastening. A. F. J. PRATT. 13 Feb., 1969 [23 Feb., 1968], No. 7956/69. Headings E2A and E2B. A gate latch comprises a wedge shaped catch 1 urged by gravity to effect a wedging action on the keeper 7. As shown the latch comprises a substantially triangular catch 1 pivoted to the rear part 3 of a truck body, and a pin 7 on the pivoted gate 8. As the gate is swung to a closed position the pin strikes the zone 5 of member 1 to raise it against gravity until, on passing the corner 1b the member is allowed to fall back to effect a wedging action between the pivot axis 4 and the pin 7. The member 1 may be slotted (Fig. 3, not shown) to accommodate a safety catch (10) pivoted therein to engage behind pin 7 when the gate is closed. A member 9 is provided to prevent (it is stated) the member I rotating to an inoperative position.
