Abstract

1,242,013. Coating apparatus. POST OFFICE. 3 June, 1970 [11 June, 1969], No. 29548/69. Heading B2L. Apparatus for coating the inside of a pipe in front of a cable which is pulled through comprises a reservoir comprising a piston 7 and cylinder 8 and an attachment 5 which can be used to pull the reservoir through the pipe, the attachment 5 being connected to either the piston 7 or cylinder 8 so as to pressurise the fluid in the reservoir and distribute it through appropriate slots. As shown in Fig. 1 the attachment 5 is connected by a rod 12 to the piston 7 so that as the reservoir is pulled in the direction of arrow 6 coating medium is forced through opening 14 and passage 15 through a needle valve 17 and out between circumferentially arranged lips 18. Brushes 21 are provided to clean the pipe prior to coating. In a modification (not shown) the cylinder is connected to the attachment 5 and the piston 7 to the attachment 2. The parts 14-18 are replaced in this case by straight through jet nozzles. Additional body sections may be added to the reservoir to increase capacity of the reservoir.
