Abstract

1,241,242. Controlling oxygen steelmaking. CENTRE NATIONAL DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES. June 25, 1969 [June 26, 1968], No.32048/69. Heading C7D. In a top-blowing process the rate of oxygen flow and the exhaust gas temperature are monitored; the lance height is controlled according to a predetermined programme based on at least one of these measurements and the blowing rate is so controlled that the gas temperature follows a predetermined course. As particularly described the lance height programme is based either on the amount of oxygen as a proportion of the total amount required, or the change in gas temperature with respect to time. The course of the gas temperature may be divided into several sections, the appropriate blowing rate for each being initiated as a function one or both of the above measurements.
