Abstract

1,241,187. Carbon paper. KORES MFG. CO. Ltd. 4 Oct., 1968 [18 Oct., 1967], No. 47299/68. Addition to 1,175,065. Heading D2B. [Also in Divisions C1 and C3] The process of 1,175,065 is modified by using pigments in which before incorporation into the homogeneous, flowable mixture, the hydrophobic characteristics of the first or second pigment is enhanced by contacting with (a) a polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon, e.g. pyrene, fluoranthene, 1:2 benzopyrene, 3:4 benzopyrene, benzoperylene or coronene; or (b) a saturated or unsaturated fatty acid having at least 8 carbon atoms, e.g. octoic acid, ricinoleic acid, or naphthenic acid, or a cycloaliphatic acid, and/or the hydrophilic characteristics of the second or first pigment, respectively are enhanced by contacting with glycerol, pentaerythritol or a polysaccharide, e.g. starch or chlorinated starch. Preferably, the hydrophobic characteristics of the first pigment are enhanced, and the hydrophilic characteristics of the second pigment are enhanced. The first pigment may be channel black or carbon black, and the second pigment may be titanium white.
