Abstract
1,138,920. Explosive compositions. CANADIAN INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 Oct., 1967 [28 Oct., 1966], No. 47074/67. Heading C1D. The sensitivity of a melt explosive composition comprising an inorganic oxygen-supplying salt and optionally a fuel is improved by the incorporation of a lignosulphonate soluble in the melt. The inorganic salt may be ammonium, sodium, potassium, barium, or calcium nitrate, or mixtures thereof. Suitable fuels are carbonaceous material, solid organic explosives, particulate light metal or metalloid, sulphur, carbon, urea, formates, thiocyanates, thiosulphates, sulphonates, and hydrocarbon oils and waxes. Ammonium, calcium and/or sodium lignosulphonate may be used. Optional additions are melting point depressants, crystal habit modifiers, pH adjusting additives, and stabilizers. The inorganic salt is melted, the other ingredients added, and the mixture cast into a mould or formed into a grained, prilled or flaked product.
