Abstract

1,138,479. Escapements. BURROUGHS CORP. 4 April, 1966 [16 April, 1965], No. 14862/66. Heading F2X. [Also in Division G4] An escapement comprises a first rotatable member 12 having at least one projection 13, a second rotatable member 8, having a resilient element 10, driving means 1 urging the first and second members to rotate, a pivoted member 21 having a portion 22 contacting one of the projections 13 and a second portion 23 to penetrate the element 10 at predetermined times, and a control device, such as an electromagnet 18 or a cam to urge the portion 22 out of contact with the projection 13 against the force exerted by the element 10. The member 12 is free to rotate on a shaft 2 driven by the means 1 and is connected by a spring 4 to the member 8 which is affixed to a shaft 11 connected by toothed gearing to the indicator wheel 17 of an accounting machine. When the member 21 pivots to free the projection 13, the spring 4 is engaged by the shaft 2 and the members 8 and 12 rotate.
