Abstract

1,137,878. Hinges. HEINZ SCHURMANN & CO. 10 June, 1966 [22 July, 1965], No. 25873/66. Heading E2F. A hinge for a door or window comprises two straps 1, 2 and a hinge pin 6 having first and second cylindrical portions 12 and 13, the longitudinal axes of which are spaced apart, i.e. they are set eccentrically, the first portion being rotatably mounted in one of said hinge straps and the second portion being adjustably mounted against rotation in the other hinge strap by splining. The hinge pin may be releasably secured in the bore of a bearing bush 3, or bearing bushes 3, 4 mounted against rotation by splining in the hinge straps, the axis of the bore being spaced from the axis of generation of the outer surface of the bearing bush(es). The splining may consist of a plurality of longitudinal equispaced ribs e.g. 14 on the outer surface of each bearing bush or hinge pin part 13 and a corresponding number of grooves in each hinge strap. Alternatively, the position of the ribs and grooves may be reversed. The hinge pin 6 is securable in the bearing bush 3 by friction means comprising a vertical tapped hole 7 receiving a grub screw 8 ending in a conical point 9 and coating with the conical tips of at least two horizontally adjustable pins 10, 11. In a modification, the pins 10 and 11 may be replaced by bearing balls.
