Abstract

1,133,770. Coating apparatus. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 4 Nov., 1966 [12 Nov., 1965], No. 48176/65. Heading B2L. In coating tablets, coating material in liquid form is supplied to a rotating surface and at least some of the coating material is dispensed in droplet form from the rotating surface on to a mass of suitably agitated and supported tablets. As shown coating material is withdrawn from reservoir 1 by pump 3 and supplied to intermediate rcservoir 4 from whence it can flow on to rotating disc 7 driven by air-turbine 10, the rate of flow from reservoir 4 being regulatable by stop-cock 6. The disc 7 rotates within a container 9 having an aperture 11 (adjustable by gate 11a) in the plane of rotation of the disc, such that coating material can be discharged from the disc 7 through aperture 11 so as to be dispensed on to tablets which are being tumbled in rotating coating pan 2. The tablets may alternatively be fluidised. Coating material not discharged through aperture 11 drains to the bottom of container 9 and is withdrawn therefrom and returned to reservoir 1 by pump 16.
