Abstract
1,133,484. Preparation of olefin oxides. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 21 April, 1966 [18 May, 1965; 2 June, 1965], Nos. 20996/65 and 23480/65. Heading C2C. [Also in Division B1] Olefins are oxidized to olefin oxides in the presence of a catalyst comprising metallic Ag or silver oxide on α Al 2 O 3 or SiC, 95% of the support having a pore diameter of 6-180 Á, a particle size of 10 to 400 Á and the porosity of the support being 35-65%. In examples, gaseous mixtures of oxygen, ethylene and nitrogen containing less than 1 p.p.m. of H 2 C=CCl 2 was contacted with a bed of a catalyst as defined above yielding chiefly ethylene oxide at about 260‹ C.
