Abstract

1,132,039. Polyamides. SCHOLVENCHEMIE A.G. 17 March, 1966 [20 March, 1965], No. 11798/66. Heading C3R. Polyamides are produced by condensation of dodecamethylene diamine with an aliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylic acid component, either the acid ingredient comprising a branched chain acid or a mixture of several acids or a non-linear diamine of up to 12 carbon atoms being present. Acids specified include adipic, trimethyl adipic and terephthalic and their diamine salts, esters, halides and amides. The reaction mixture may also contain up to 50% of other diamines which may be aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic and optionally substituted, up to 10% of aminoacids of lactums having at least 6 carbon atoms, 0À2-1% viscosity stabilizers and acids and amines having a functionality greater than 2. Compounds of these types specified include (#-amino-undecanoic acid, 3 - aminomethyl - 3,5,5 - trimethylcyclohexylamine, 2,2,4- and 2,4,4-trimethylhexamethylene diamine and mixtures thereof. The condensation may taken place at 150-300‹ C. under a N 2 atmosphere. A diluent, e.g. H 2 O or alcohol may be used and the reaction may be completed under reduced pressure.
