Abstract
1,131,983. Dehydrogenation catalysts. MONSANTO CO. 23 Dec., 1965 [28 Dec., 1964 (2)], No. 54542/65. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C5] Alumina containing 0.02-5% of combined Pt, Pd, Ru, Rh, Os or Ir is subjected to the action of a reducing gas until reduction to free noble metal is substantially complete before activating it in hydrogen for at least an hour. The Al 2 O 3 preferably has special physical properties e.g. a surface area of at least 30 m<SP>2</SP>/gm macropore volume of 0.07 ccs./gm. and may have been calcined at 200-460‹C prior to reduction. Additionally the catalysts may contain combined Na, K, Ca or Mg. Preparative details and comparative examples are given. The catalysts may be regenerated by burning off coke and reducing again.
