Abstract

1,127,127. Acrylic acid. BP CHEMICALS (U.K.) Ltd. 20 April, 1967 [26 April, 1966], No. 18144/66. Heading C2C. Acrylic acid is stabilized by the addition of a nitroxide of formula wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 are alkyl groups and no hydrogen is bound to the remaining valencies, the atoms or groups being halogen, cyanide, -SPL, -S-COCH 3 , -OCOCH 3 , -OCOC 2 H 5 alkenyl, or they may form part of a ring, e.g. pyrrolidine-1-oxyl and piperidine-1-oxyl. Examples are di-tert-butyl nitroxide, and 2,2,6,6- tetramethyl - 4 - hydroxy - piperidine - 1 - oxyl. The stabilizers are useful in conjunction with stabilizing methods using a controlled quantity of molecular oxygen.
