Abstract

1,124,554. Finishing yarns. FR. METTLER'S SOHNE MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. 2 May, 1967 [11 May, 1966], No. 20312/67. Heading D1F. [Also in Division F4] A gas burner arrangement for singeing threads comprises a conical burner sleeve 5 mounted in a housing block 1 and having a slot (6) aligned with a slot (7) in the housing to allow lateral insertion of a thread 8 which passes over stripping rods 15 extending perpendicularly to the axis of the sleeve 5. An air and gas mixture passes through radial bores 13 in sleeve 5 to burn while forming small flames (14). By adjusting the gas supply the flames can be made so small as not to reach the thread 8 which is singed merely by contact with the heated roll 15.
