Abstract

1,161,674. Bulking yarn. ELITEX-ZAVODY TEXTILNIHO STROJIRENSTVI, GENERALNI REDITELSTVI. 31 Aug., 1966 [1 Sept., 1965], No. 4134/69. Divided out of 1,161,673. Headings D1F, D1J and D1W. A method of bulking staple fibre yarn containing fibres with different degrees of potential shrinkage comprises feeding the yarn by means of a gas stream into a chamber where the yarn is accumulated, and heated to cause differential shrinkage of the fibres. The yarn may then be advanced to a winding, knitting, or weaving operation. The yarn is heated in the chamber by either the chamber being electrically heated or by using steam or hot air as the gas. The chamber gradually widens in cross-section, which may be circular, elliptical, square, or rectangular, from a gas nozzle at the inlet end to the outlet end where the cross-section abruptly decreases. The chamber is perforated to allow the gas to escape with the perforations preferably being located in grooves along the inside of the chamber. The chamber may have a device to sense the amount of yarn therein and to control the nozzle and/or the rollers feeding the yarn to the nozzle. The yarn stored in the chamber may also constitute a reserve between a knotter and the bobbin on which it is being wound, as in Specification 1,031,608.
