Abstract
1,124,053. Locks. METROPOLITAN PLASTICS Ltd. 26 Aug.. 1966 [26 Oct., 1965], No. 45235/65. Heading E2A. A lock having a tongue made of synthetic plastics material comprises a casing, a tongue slidable into and out of the casing, the tongue having an integrally formed extension constituting a spring to urge the tongue to a predetermined outer position and rotatable means engaging the tongue to move it into and out of the casing against the force of the spring; the rotatable means being operable by a key or handle. The tongue has the outer and inner end portions 34, 54 slidable between portions of the lock casing, the end portions being joined by spring curved bands 59, 60 which each have an ear with a pin 63, 64 which engages in a groove 66, 67 of a snail cam supported within the casing to urge the tongue to the locking position. The cam has a key slot 69 so that the cam is rotated by a key through a small angle clockwise to withdraw the tongue to open the door or is turned through 180‹ anti clockwise to lock the tongue in an extended position. Alternatively the tongue has two laterally projecting spring arms which engage between pairs of lugs on the casing side walls and a pin centrally between the arms which engages in a groove in a snail cam. The key is turned through 360‹ to secure the tongue in extended position. The lock may be made of thermoplastics.
