Abstract
1,122,531. A golf trainer. W. C. CLARK. 22 May, 1967 [23 May, 1966], No. 22851/66. Heading A6D. A golf training apparatus comprises a stationary structure having mounted thereon a captive ball, an impact element mounted on the structure and positioned to be struck by the captive ball and a force indicating disc rotatably mounted on the structure and under the action of a load tending to restrain its rotation and means to act between the impact element and the disc to rotate the disc by an amount determined by the force with which the ball is struck. The ball may be on a gimbal journalled on the structure such that the ball is also movable within limits to each side of the line of striking and electrical contacts are provided on the gimbal and on a journal and are adapted when the gimbal has rotated on its journals by a predetermined amount to complete a respective electrical indicating circuit. Preferably the apparatus comprises a foot-operable control mounted on the structure and coupled to a brake serving as a loading for the disc whereby such brake may be released to permit the disc to return to a zero position under return-loading this control is conveniently coupled to a means for re-setting the gimbal to an even-keel position and may also be coupled to the means acting between the impact element and the disc thereby to re-set the impact element to a zero position.
