Abstract

1,120,220. Steering vehicles; driving vehicles. SOC. NOUVELLE D'EXPLOITATIONS DES ETABS. BOILOT-PETROLAT. 18 April, 1967 [24 May, 1966], No. 17788/67. Heading B7H. [Also in Division B8] A tower crane mounted on pneumatic tyres comprises a tricycle chassis 1 with a steerable front wheel set 3 and a triple drive system comprising firstly a power drive in the form of a motor 8 for the orientation of the steering wheel set 3, secondly a power drive in the form of motors 14, 15 for propelling two driving wheel sets 4, 5, respectively, and thirdly a power drive for turning the rotary part of the crane, all the drives (which can be remote-controlled) being independent of one another and being supplied by a suitable energy source (not shown). The energy source may be a diesel-electric generating set or other type of generator. The motors may be supplied, on a building site, by an electrical lead connected to the mains. The motors for the wheels may be declutchable to permit towing.
