Abstract

1,119,917. Bearings. LINDE A.G. 19 April, 1967 [21 April, 1966], No. 17921/67. Heading F2A. A fluid bearing is provided with equi-spaced tilting-pads 4 and 4a, the latter being urged radially inwardly towards a shaft 1 located within the pads by means of a spring 6. The tilting-pads are carried by an intermediate bush 5 which is resiliently supported by means of 0-rings 7 in a bore 3 of a housing 3a. The pads are supported axially by means of rings 8, 9, 10 and 11. In a modification, the 0-rings 7 may be replaced by support-blocks distributed around the periphery of the intermediate bush 5. The 0-rings or the support-blocks may be made from layers of P.T.F.E. foil and fibre glass mat.
