Abstract
1,119,719. Rotary joints. FMC CORP. 24 Oct., 1966 [17 Jan., 1966], No. 47593/66. Heading F2G. [Also in Division B8] A swivel joint for connecting the top 32 of an elbow 31 to a pipe 51 comprises a base 14 mounting a fixed rim 15 and a fixed plate 25 on the pipe 51. Male and female parts 21, 22 with interposed balls 24 which are secured to the rim 15 and plate 21 respectively form an outer swivel joint while a male part 38 on the elbow end 32 forms, with interposed balls 40, an inner joint with a female part 39 of a plate 42. The plate 42 is bolted to the plate 25 with an interposed static seal 43 while a dynamic seal 44 is located between the male part 38 and the plate 42. The joint can be swivelled by ropes 125, 126 attached to the rim 15 and actuated by rams.
