Abstract

Polyacrylonitrile, an acrylonitrile copolymer, polyvinyl chloride or chlorinated polyvinyl chloride is dissolved in dimethyl formamide, dimethyl acetamide or dimethyl sulphoxide together with 1-10% by weight of the total amount of all of the polymers and copolymers in the solution of a sulphonate group containing copolymer of styrene or a styrene derivative, said copolymer having a 1-15% by weight sulphur content and the solution is spun to form filaments or fibres. In the examples, polyacrylonitrile, or polyvinyl chloride, and a sulphonated styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer are dissolved in dimethyl formamide. The solution is wet-spun to form fibres which are dyed.
