Abstract
1,119,162. Refrigeration &c. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Ltd. 19 April, 1966 [21 April, 1965], No. 16762/65. Heading F4H. [Also in Division H1] A mounting for a laser or radiation sensitive solid state device comprises coaxial conductors with a coaxial end-socket coupling and the solid state device mounted in axial position, the inner conductor incorporating means for cooling the device. In the figure, a photo diode 9 is mounted on and connected between inner coaxial conductor 1 and spring disc 13 which is connected to the outer coaxial tube 2. Cooling is effected by supplying pressurised nitrogen or other gas to tube 27 in inlet assembly 17, which conveys the gas to Joule-Thomson cooler 13 for release at nozzle 18 adjacent diode 9. The coolant gas then travels back through the inner tube 1 to aperture 19 and then via the coaxial interspace and apertures in disc 13 to flow over lens system 15 to the atmosphere. Inlet tube 19 serves as a d.c. connection to bias the diode 9 and may comprise an h.f. choke portion 29. The coaxial conductors are tapped at the other end to match connecting socket portion 6.
