Abstract

1,118,195. Cores. KARL SCHMIDT G.m.b.H. 30 Sept., 1965 [14 Oct., 1964], No. 41586/65. Heading B3F. A core for an internal combustion engine piston has a main core body x and a substantially toroidal core part c spaced therefrom so as to form a cooling channel in the piston, the core part being made of a material which can be washed out of the cast piston, at least one metal rod extending between the core body and the core part to position the latter. The core part may be supported by steel tubes or pillars or sand pillars a attached to the core part c and body x by means of sleeves b. A tensioning bolt or bolts may be provided to tighten the core part c down and a centring spider may be used to provide accurate location. The supporting members in the form of steel tubes or rods may -be provided with a ceramic coating to facilitate removal from the cast piston.
