Abstract
A fused cast refractory consists of, in weight per cent, magnesia 60-99; manganese dioxide 1-40; the balance, if any, being not more than 35 of oxide from at least one of the groups (1) up to 30 of FeO, CaO, Cr2O3 and their mixtures; (2) less than 20 of TiO2, ZrO2, and their mixtures; and (3) less than 10 of BaO, SiO, Al2O3, B2O3, SiO2, P2O5, rare earth oxides and their mixtures. The refractory may be formed into granules which, with or without additional refractory material, can be rebonded into special shapes not easily formed by direct casting. Spinels may formed in situ.
