Abstract

1,115,710. Cigarette-making machines. HAUNI-WERKE KÍRBER & CO. KOMM.- GES. 21 July, 1966 [28 Oct., 1965], No. 32854/66. Heading A2C. In a continuous rod cigarette -making machine of the type in which a tobacco rod is formed by showering tobacco -into an upwardly open duct 322 on to a continuously moving perforated suction backed conveyer band 324; the build-up section of the duct 322, which is long in :relation -to the formed tobacco stream width, has its wall parts 356, 358 arranged divergently in the feed direction (i.e. from left to right as shown). The conveyer band 324 may be a porous natural or artificial silk belt or a perforated steel belt and runs over a rigid support having openings 386 communicating with a suction chamber. The divergence of the wall parts 356, 358 in conjunction with uniform spacing of the openings 386 sproduces a falling air flow resistance per unit -length along the buildup section in the direction of the tobacco feed. In another embodiment, the .perforation cross-section of the openings 386 (538, in Fig. 6, not shown) increases in the feed direction to further reduce the air flow resistance per unit length.
