Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1115328/C2/1> the dotted line indicates that the compounds may be saturated or unsaturated in the 10(11)-position and wherein X represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C1- 5 alkyl, trifluoromethyl, C1- 5 alkoxy, C1- 5 alkylmercapto, C1- 5 alkylsulphonyl or di(C1- 5 alkyl)sulphamoyl radical with the proviso that X does not represent a hydrogen atom when the 10(11)-position is saturated and a process for preparing compounds of the above formula wherein X and the dotted line have the meanings given above except that X can represent a hydrogen atom whether or not the 10(11)-position is saturated by contacting the corresponding 5-chloro compound with cuprous cyanide in an anhydrous, non-hydroxylic solvent.
